The ZODML University Poetry Challenge/ How to Apply (N100,000 + Award)

ZODML has announced the commencement of its 2023 university poetry challenge  for young poets in Nigeria!

The ZODML University Poetry Challenge is organized be the Zaccheus Onumba Dibiaezue Memorial Libraries (ZODML/the Organisation). It is a non-profit organization based in Lagos, Nigeria. Its work is inspired by the life and legacy of Zacchaeus Onumba Dibiaezue who through self-learning and access to libraries was able to transform his life and the lives of others.  

ZODML provides free access to digital resources, information and learning tools through which young Nigerians, particularly those attending public universities, can acquire knowledge and thrive in their studies and future careers. 

 

Eligibility for the ZODML University Poetry Challenge 

  • The ZODML University Poetry Challenge is open to students in public tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
  • Entries must come from poets only.
    Inquiries about entries must also come from poets. 
  • One must be a public university to apply — forgery attracts disqualification. 
  • Applicants must be 18 years and above.
  • Applicants must be Nigerian.

The ZODML university poetry challenge

Submission Guidelines 

  • The theme of the challenge is MOTHERHOOD, poems that do not deal with this theme will not be considered.
  •  Entries must be a single poem of not more than 50 lines with a font size no smaller than 11 pt.
  • The poem may be in any Nigerian language or English, a poem that is not in English must be translated into English by the poet.
  •  A long list of 10 and a short list of 5 will be announced by ZODML via a press release, social media, and its website on the 14th and 21st of May, respectively.
  • Apply using the submission link provided.
  • The winner will be announced at an award ceremony at ZODML, 196 Awolowo Road, Ikoyi.
  • The deadline is April 30th.
