The Nigeria Prize for Literature | How To Apply (Prize: $100,000)

The Nigeria Prize for Literature, sponsored by NLNG, is now open for submissions for its 2025 edition. This prestigious annual award honors the best book by a Nigerian author and rotates among four literary genres: Prose Fiction, Poetry, Drama, and Children’s Literature.

For 2025, the competition is dedicated to Prose Fiction, and the winner will receive a grand prize of USD 100,000.

Submission Procedure

  • Entries must be submitted with a completed application form available on The Nigeria Prizes website.
  • Applicants must submit twelve (12) hard copies and an e-copy of their entry, along with proof of Nigerian citizenship (photocopy of passport or National ID card).
  • Submissions can be made by either the author or publisher.
  • Deliver books to NLNG’s External Relations Division by the stipulated deadline.

Eligibility Criteria

  •  The organizers will consider only books published in 2022 or later for eligibility.
  • They do not accept unpublished manuscripts.
  • Authors must limit their submissions to one published work.
  • The organizers may accept resubmissions of previously submitted books if they have undergone major revisions.
  • They exclude entries from members of the Advisory Board, Panel of Judges, or their families for up to five years after their tenure.
  • The organizers will not consider late submissions.

The Nigeria Prize for Literature is exclusively for Nigerian writers, regardless of their country of residence. The winner will participate in media and public events, including interviews, literary festivals, and book readings.
