Emerging Writers with hope of being established in the writing industry, then the Literary Laddership is here for you!
It is a Digital Residency Program is that aims to provide you with the support and resources you need to flourish in your writing journey. But before you apply, here are important things to note.
Eligibility for the Literary Laddership for Emerging Writers
- To be eligible for the program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Literary works of fiction: The program is open to writers of all sub-genres of fiction, including literary, science fiction, fantasy, horror, romance, thriller/mystery, etc.
- Writing in English: All submissions must be in English.
- More so, applicants must be citizens of African nations and primarily reside on the African continent.
Submission Guidelines
Here’s what you need to know to submit your application for the Literary Laddership for Emerging Writers

- Deadline: The submission deadline is March 31, 2024, at 11:59 PM WAT.
- Application Process: Submit your application to fellowship@suyidavies.com. Ensure no identifying information is present in the submission documents.
– Required Documents
– Cover Letter: Briefly describe your basis for meeting the eligibility criteria in the email body.
– Writing Sample: Provide a sample of 3,000 words max, split across 2 different works. Longer excerpts from a work-in-progress are recommended.
– Project Description, Fellowship Plan, Budget: Detail why you should receive the fellowship, what you will work on during the residency, and how you will utilize the funds.
Rewards
Selected fellows will receive the following benefits:
- Grant: Each writer will receive a $500 grant, paid out monthly, to support their creative endeavors.
- Community of Practice: More so, every fellow will gain access to a private online community where you can engage with industry veterans and fellow writers.
- Publishing Ecosystem: Receive guidance on various publishing routes and connect with professionals in the industry.
Important Details
- Manuscript Length: Your proposed work must be a minimum of novella-length (17,500 – 40,000 words) or longer.
- Response Time: Also, selected fellows will be announced between 30-90 days from the application deadline.
- Judging Criteria: Applications will be assessed based on storytelling, language, style, genre understanding, and project plan.
