Submission Guidelines For Fairfield Scribes

Submitting your work to the Fairfield Scribes Micro is a straightforward process, but it is important to adhere to their guidelines to ensure your submission receives proper consideration. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Submissions are accepted year-round, except during the month of September, when the platform is closed for tallying the results for The Scribes Prize.
  • Original works and reprints are welcome, with a preference for pieces that fall within the 90-110 word range (excluding the title).
  • Submissions must not be AI-created.
  • Simultaneous submissions are permitted, provided the author notifies the editors promptly if the piece is accepted elsewhere.
  • Writers can submit up to three entries at a time, following the formatting guidelines outlined by William Shunn and sending their entries in .doc, .docx, or .rtf format or in the body of the email to Scribes.Micro@gmail.com.
  • In the subject line, writers should indicate “Micro Submission“. Include a brief bio of 50 words or less, along with links to your website or social media handles.

What They Want

Here’s what they’re looking for in submissions:

  1. Drabbles: Short stories, creative nonfiction, and poems of precisely 100 words, although works ranging from 90-110 words are also considered.
  2. Originality: Writers are encouraged to submit fresh and original pieces that captivate readers with their creativity and unique perspective.
  3. Engagement: Successful submissions are those that evoke emotion, spark imagination, and leave a lasting impression on the reader within the constraints of micro fiction.

What They Don’t Want

While the Fairfield Scribes Micro welcomes a wide range of submissions, there are certain elements they prefer to avoid:

  1. AI-Created Work: Submissions generated by artificial intelligence algorithms are not accepted, as the platform prioritizes authentic human creativity and expression.
  2. Lengthy Works: the focus is on micro fiction. Submissions exceeding the specified word count range may not be considered for publication.
  3. Links: The editors do not open links included in submissions, so writers should refrain from including them in their entries.

Eligibility Criteria

The Fairfield Scribes Micro is open to writers from all backgrounds and levels of experience. Whether you’re a seasoned author or a newcomer to the world of micro fiction, your submissions are welcome as long as they meet the platform’s guidelines and standards of quality.
