The Arthur C. Clarke Award Shortlist 2024
The Arthur C. Clarke Award Shortlist for Science Fiction Books 2024 has been released.
The annual Arthur C. Clarke Award is given for the best science fiction novel first published in the United Kingdom during the previous year. The award judges are a voluntary body whose members are nominated by the award’s supporting organisations, currently the British Science Fiction Association, the Science Fiction Foundation, and the Sci-Fi-London film festival.

According to the Chair of Judges, Andrew M. Butler,
This year’s shortlist takes us from the deepest oceans to furthest outer space – with satire, time travel, aliens, octopuses, supercomputers and a six-legged Bambi. Many thanks to returning judge Stark Holborn and to neophytes Nic Clarke, Tom Dillon, Dolly Garland and Glyn Morgan for selecting six writers new to the Arthur C. Clarke Award. I suspect the final decision will be very close indeed.
The Arthur C. Clarke Award Shortlist Winners are:
- CHAIN-GANG ALL-STARS — Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah
- THE TEN PERCENT THIEF— Lavanya Lakshminarayan
- IN ASCENSION — Martin MacInnes
- THE MOUNTAIN IN THE SEA — Ray Nayler
- SOME DESPERATE GLORY — Emily Tesh
- COREY FAH DOES SOCIAL MOBILITY— Isabel Waidner
The winner will be announced on July 24, 2024. The winner will receive a trophy in the form of a commemorative engraved bookend and prize money to the value of £2024.00, a tradition that sees the annual prize money rise incrementally by year since 2001 in memory of Sir Arthur C. Clarke.
