The Tejumola Olaniyan Creative Writers-in-Residence Fellowship is bringing African Literary Legacy! 

In commemoration of the esteemed Nigerian Professor Tejumola Olaniyan and his profound contributions to African literature and critical theory, The Africa Institute proudly announces the opening of applications for its third cohort of the Tejumola Olaniyan Creative Writers-in-Residence Fellowship for the academic year 2024.

Eligibility for Tejumola Olaniyan Creative Writers-in-Residence Fellowship

  • Open to creative writers from Africa and the African diaspora, including novelists, short story writers, playwrights, poets, and scriptwriters.
  • More so, proposed projects can be in Arabic or English (other languages will be considered).
  • Also, applicants must demonstrate a clear connection to Africa or the African diaspora.

Submission Guidelines

  • Compile all application materials, including CV/résumé, a two-page narrative of the project, and a sample of published or unpublished writings, into a single PDF.
  • In addition, name the PDF file with the residency title abbreviation and the applicant’s name in the format: TOCWRP_LASTNAME_FIRSTNAME.
  • Submit the application via email to applications@theafricainstitute.org with the same name used in the email subject heading.

Rewards

  • Three recipients will be selected to receive a grant of 45,000 AED in total.
  • Furthermore, recipients will be invited to Sharjah, UAE for a three-month residency to complete their work.
  • In addition, there would be an opportunity to publish texts through The Africa Institute’s publications program.
  • Support in facilitating productions for theatre and film scripts.
  • Projects can be new or works-in-progress, feasible for completion within the residency timeframe.
