Tasavvur Magazine Is Accepting Short Stories/ How To Submit (Pay: $100)

Tasavvur Magazine is dedicated to showcasing speculative fiction from South Asia, providing a platform for writers from diverse backgrounds and communities within the region.

Submission Guidelines Tasavvur Magazine

  • Only short story submissions for short fiction are considered.
  • See here about submissions for flash fiction, poetry, or longer pieces.
  • Only original, unpublished works are accepted; previously published content, even on personal blogs, is not eligible.
  • Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but authors must notify Tasavvur if their piece is accepted elsewhere before receiving a response.
  • Only one submission per author per submission cycle is permitted.
  • Resubmissions of previously rejected stories are discouraged unless specifically requested by Tasavvur.

 

What They Want

  • Short stories with a South Asian theme, setting, or characters.
  • Authors from South Asia and neighboring regions, as well as diaspora communities.
  • Stories that reflect diversity, including but not limited to under-represented communities such as women, LGBTQIA+ individuals, BIPOC, people with disabilities, religious and/or ethnic minorities.

 

What They Don’t Want

  • Email submissions; all submissions must be made through the form on the website.
  • Flash fiction, poetry, or longer pieces.
  • Previously published works, including those posted on personal blogs.
  • Multiple submissions within the same submission cycle.
  • Resubmissions of previously rejected stories without a specific request from Tasavvur.

 

Eligibility Criteria For Tasavvur Magazine

  • Authors must be from South Asia or neighboring regions, or from diaspora communities.
  • Authors from traditionally under-represented communities are encouraged to submit.
  • Only short story submissions of up to 5,000 words are accepted.
  • There is no entry fee.

 

Author Rights

  • Tasavvur pays 2.5 cents per word for fiction and $100 for commissioned non-fiction.
  • Tasavvur retains first publishing rights for accepted fiction pieces.
  • Authors retain the copyright to their work.

 

Deadline

Fiction submissions for the Summer issue close on May 31st, 2024.

 

Payment

  • Fiction: 2.5 cents per word
  • Non-fiction: $100 for commissioned pieces
