Midnight & Indigo Submission/ How to Submit (
Midnight & Indigo is a literary platform dedicated to publishing short fiction and narrative essays by black women writers.
Published and unpublished writers are encouraged to submit character-driven short stories. Stories should feature strong female lead characters or black female POV.
Book reviews focused on works by black women authors are accepted by the magazine year-round but manuscripts and poetry are not accepted.
Eligibility for Midnight & Indigo Submission
- Black women writers are encouraged to submit
- No age restriction
- No entry fee but there is No optional fee of $20 which will put your work at the top of the reading list for review
- Though this will not influence acceptance of your submission
Submission Deadline
January 10, 2021
Guidelines for Midnight & Indigo Submission
- Work must be previously unpublished
- Word count should be included at the top of the submission
- Submission must be on or before the deadline
Speculative fiction
- This includes, but is not limited to, science fiction, fantasy, superhero fiction, horror, utopian and dystopian fiction, fairytale fantasy, and supernatural fiction
- A minimum word count of 1500 words
- This should be submitted through this submittable
- Responses for the submission will be by February 23, 2021
Short story
- All genres are accepted but we prefer something readers easily connect to
- A minimum word count of 1,500 words
- Submissions should be through this submittable
- Responses will be by March 31, 2021
Narrative/Personal Essays
- A minimum word count of 1,200 words
- Responses will available by March 31, 2021
- You should not include a list format like “5 ways to…” or inspirational instructions
- Submissions should be through this submittable
Book Reviews
- Word count should be 1000 words and above
- Book must be by a black woman authorÂ
- There is no compensation for book review
- Submissions should be through submittable
