The Institute for Human Sciences (IWM) is pleased to announce the call for applications for the Józef Tischner Fellowships, supporting Polish and Polish-American scholars in the humanities and social sciences.
Objective of the Józef Tischner Fellowships
The Józef Tischner Fellowships aim to encourage research in various academic disciplines, with a focus on the IWM’s research fields. The fellowships provide a unique opportunity for junior researchers to pursue their projects and engage with the scholarly community.
Details and Benefits of the Józef Tischner Fellowships
– Duration: 4 months (September 2025 – June 2026)
– Stipend: EUR 3,300 (postdoctoral) or EUR 2,750 (doctoral) per month

Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants must:
– Be Polish citizens, Polish-American scholars, or permanent residents in Poland
– Be enrolled in a doctoral program or hold a PhD (obtained within 4 years)
– Have an academic background in the humanities or social sciences

Requirements for The Józef Tischner Fellowships
To apply, candidates must submit:
– A brief letter of motivation (addressing how the project would benefit from time at the IWM, connection to the IWM’s mission and research, and concrete research/writing goals)
– A project description (max. 550 characters)
– A project proposal (max. 7,500 characters, including objectives, current state of the art, methods, and work plan)
– A curriculum vitae with a list of publications
– Two letters of recommendation from scholars familiar with the applicant’s academic work

Application Guidelines
– Applications must be submitted through the IWM’s online application form
– All application materials should be in English
– Attached documents must be combined into a single PDF
– File names of attachments must use Latin characters
Deadline
The deadline for applications is February 16, 2025.
Selection: A jury of experts will select finalists, notifying applicants in spring 2025.
