Gumshoe Review is now accepting original material for publication, including short fiction mysteries and nonfiction essays about the mystery genre. 

They aim to add more original content to their publication in the upcoming months.

Submission Guidelines: Essays & Short Fiction

Short Story Submissions

• Gumshoe Review is accepting short original fiction, specifically mysteries.

• Short stories should be complete mysteries in 1,000 words or less.

• The focus should be on storytelling rather than character studies or mood pieces.

• Preference is for stories leaning towards noir.

• Submissions should be sent as plain text within the body of an email or as attachments in .txt, .pdf, .doc, or .wp formats to editor@gumshoereview.com.

• Subject line: “Gumshoe Short Story Submission.”

• Authors should include a short bio with the story.

• Works must be original and unpublished.

• Acknowledgment of receipt will be sent immediately, but response time for acceptance may vary.

Nonfiction Essays Submissions

• Gumshoe Review is open to nonfiction essays on topics related to the mystery genre.

• Essays should be no longer than 1,000 words.

• Submissions should be sent as plain text within the body of an email or as attachments in .txt, .pdf, .doc, or .wp formats to editor@gumshoereview.com.

• Subject line: “Gumshoe Essay Submission.“

• Authors should include a short bio emphasizing qualifications in the field.

• Works must be original and unpublished.

• Acknowledgment of receipt will be sent immediately, but response time for acceptance may vary.

• Response time on queries depends on the volume of material received.

• Gumshoe Review plans to publish one short story and one essay per month.

Eligibility Criteria For Gumshoe Review

• Authors submitting to Gumshoe Review should ensure their works are original and unpublished.

• There is no entry fee.

Author Rights

Authors retain the rights to their works upon publication in Gumshoe Review.

Payment

Short Story Submissions: 5 cents per word, up to a maximum of $50.

Nonfiction Essays Submissions: 5 cents per word, up to a maximum of $50.
