Female Authors Dominate the Booker Prize 2024 Shortlist
The shortlist for the Booker Prize 2024 has been announced.
Six books were selected by the 2024 judging panel from 156 works published between 1 October 2023 and 30 September 2024. Five of the six shortlisted authors are women, the largest number of women in the prize’s 55-year history. Additionally, authors from five countries, including the Netherlands, are represented for the first time. Two authors, Percival Everett and Rachel Kushner, have been previously shortlisted for the prize.
The Booker Prize 2024 Shortlist are:

- Orbital – Samantha Harvey (UK)
- Creation Lake – Rachel Kushner (US)
- Held – Anne Michaels (Canada)
- The Safekeep – Yael van der Wouden (Netherlands)
- Stone Yard Devotion – Charlotte Wood (Australia)

About the Prize
The Booker Prize, formerly the Booker Prize for Fiction and the Man Booker Prize, is a prestigious literary award conferred each year for the best single work of sustained fiction written in the English language which was published in the United Kingdom and/or Ireland.
The 2024 ceremony will take place on the evening of Tuesday, November 12 2024 in London. There will also be broadcast in a special edition of BBC Radio 4’s Front Row. The winner will receive £50,000 and a trophy, while each shortlisted author will receive £2,500 and a bespoke bound edition of their book.
