Digital Ocean is a platform with a public knowledge base that encourages the submission of tutorials for a wide audience.

Basic Linux System Administration: Setting up SSH keys, managing files, environmental variables.

Linux Tools: Using tools like grep, Rsync, and systemd service files.

Docker Tutorials: Creating Docker Compose YAML files, managing Docker images, Docker monitoring.

Security Topics: Configuring firewalls, using WireGuard, Suricata.

 

Digital Ocean Content Requirements

  • Must be practical guides covering open-source software and Linux/Unix-like systems.
  • Focus on providing a series of steps to solve a specific problem.
  • Thorough explanations of each step, ensuring readers understand the code or commands and can adapt them.

Submission Process

  • Submit your topic idea, outline, and a writing sample showcasing your ability to explain technical knowledge.
  • Work with the editorial team to refine your topic and outline.
  • Use provided resources to write your tutorial.
  • Submit your draft and work one-on-one with a professional editor for feedback and technical review.
  • Revise your tutorial based on editorial feedback.
  • Receive payment, have your article published, and select a charity for the donation.
  • Continue building a relationship with the editorial team by suggesting new articles.

 

What Digital Ocean Looks for in an Author

Payment Structure

New Tutorials: $400 upon publication.

Updates for Existing Tutorials: $100 for updates such as distribution changes.

For each new article accepted, DigitalOcean will make a $25 donation to a tech-focused charity selected by the author.
