Dayne Ogilvie Prize 2024 Finalists Books: 1. Perfect Little Angels by Vincent Anioke 2. Dayspring by Anthony Oliveira 3. What I Know About You by Éric Chacour

The Dayne Ogilvie Prize for LGBTQ2S+ Emerging Writers is one of Canada’s most prestigious literary awards. It was established in 2007 by Robin Pacific in honour of her late friend Dayne Ogilvie, a respected editor, writer, literary manager, and passionate lover of all the arts.

For 2024, the finalists represent a diverse range of voices and genres, embodying the evolving landscape of LGBTQ2S+ literature. The writers are recognized not only for their creativity and literary craftsmanship but also for their work’s cultural impact. Their writing also challenges societal norms and offers fresh perspectives on the theme of identity, belonging, and the complexities of queer life.

The finalists for the 2024 Dayne Ogilvie Prize are Vincent Anioke, Anthony Oliveira and Éric Chacour.

About the Books

  • Vincent Anioke – Perfect Little Angels

A slyly queer collection that is generous, destabilizing, and hungry for life, Perfect Little Angels takes us inside moments that feel bitingly real and mythically transcendent. Anioke renders his characters and settings with crisp prose that cuts through the noise of our world.

  • Anthony Oliveira – Dayspring

Ambitiously and audaciously, Anthony Oliveira transforms scripture into a poetic and erotic queer love story. Dayspring crosses centuries and genres, bends fan fiction into dazzling verse, and mixes the sacred and the profane with the sublime and the perverse.

  • Éric Chacour- What I Know About You ( Translated by Pablo Strauss)

Until we collapse the distance between bodies, what can we really know about the forces that make and unmake us? What I Know About You pulls readers into the prickled flesh of evolving forms alive with sensation, longing, fear, betrayal, and love.

The winner will be announced on the 19th of November, 2024. They will be awarded a cash prize of $10,000, with each finalist receiving $1,000 in recognition of their literary achievements.
