Banshee Press Submissions for Issue 16 is Currently Open to Writers of Essays, Short Fiction and Poetry

Banshee Press is a small independent Irish publisher established in 2014. They publish a print literary journal, Banshee, as well as a select list of books. Banshee welcomes submissions from both Irish and international writers of any background, including first-time writers. Banshee Press Submissions is for their print literary journal published twice a year – in spring and autumn. They feature short stories, flash fiction, poetry and personal essays. 

Submission Guidelines for Banshee Press Submissions

  • Banshee welcomes submissions from both Irish and international writers of any background, including first-time writers.

  • They welcome work from members of groups or communities typically under-represented within literature, whether or not the work addresses this.

  • All submissions should be previously unpublished.

  • Their guideline word count for stories and essays is max 5000 words. Flash fiction should be under 1000 words, poems no more than 40 lines.

  • They are happy to read: one story or one essay or two flashes or up to four poems. You should ensure your entries are well-written and properly edited. 
  • Please only submit in one category per submissions period. 

  • Submissions should be in one .doc or .docx attachment. Prose submissions should be double-spaced.

  • Include a good third-person bio (max 50 words) in the body of your email.

  • If you are sending a prose submission, note the word count of the piece in the body of the email.

  • Email to subs.bansheelit@gmail.com, indicating the category of your submission in the subject line (e.g. Flash/Story/Essay/Poetry).

  • They are happy to consider simultaneous submissions, but ask that you notify them as soon as your work is accepted elsewhere.

  • Please note that they cannot offer feedback on unsuccessful submissions. 

Payment

They pay €250 for a story/essay, €75 for flash fiction, and €50 per poem. 

Deadline

Submissions for issue #16 end on the 31st of March, 2023.
