Bannister Press, an independent publisher based in Toronto, specializes in supernatural and fantasy stories catered to adults and young adults.

Submission Guidelines For Bannister Press

• Bannister Press does not accept works written by AI.

• Submissions do not necessarily have to be edited.

• Only one story per author is allowed.

• No multiple or simultaneous submissions.

• Manuscripts must not contain erotica, gore, or excessive violence.

• No reprints are accepted.

What They Want

• International short story submissions by writers who identify as women.

• Stories that explore themes of being on the outside looking in or feeling out of step with the world, with a fantasy element.

• Visually or character/narrative focused stories that leave a lasting impact on the reader.

• Humorous stories are acceptable, but not centered around a “mic drop” moment.

What They Don’t Want

• Works written by AI.

• Submissions containing erotica, gore, or excessive violence.

• Reprints or previously published works.

Submission Format For Bannister Press

• Title, genre, number of words, and a brief description of the story (2-3 sentences) should be included in the body of the email.

• Story should be attached as a .doc or .docx file.

• Manuscript formatting should follow William Shunn’s Modern Manuscript Format and use Times New Roman font.

Additional Information

• For novel submissions, guidelines differ and include providing a brief description of the story along with an excerpt from the manuscript.

• Bannister Press focuses on strongly unique voices and new ideas in both fiction and non-fiction.
