Awele Creative Trust Shortlist Shines With Powerful and Timeless Stories
On April 12th, 2025, the Awele Creative Trust announced the shortlist of the 2024 ACT Award. The Awele Creative Trust is a not-for-profit trust created in 2013 with an aim to provide ‘a platform and enabling environment for creative young persons in Nigeria through literature and arts’. The ACT Award is part of the few Awards supporting and celebrating the Nigerian literary industry. The Awele Creative Trust awards the prize to a Nigerian writer for a short story between 2,500 and 5,000 words.
According to the ACT website, the 2024 Awele Creative Trust shortlisted ‘stories explore powerful and timely themes, including patriarchy, sacrifice and redemption, love, loss, and grief, the illusion of control, hope, and despair.’ Previous winners of the ACT Award include; Olayinka Yaqub, Akunna James-Ibe, Mustapha Enesi, Joshua Chizoma, Bakporhe Ufuomaoghene, Imade Iyamu, Caleb Somtochukwu Okereke, Anthony Ezekwoh and Nneoma Ike Njoku.
