2017 Artist In Residency (AIR) Program — Apply

Africa Center is currently accepting applications for the 2017 Artist In Residency (AIR) Programmes. The residencies are being offered in Australia, Brazil, Spain, Italy and the United States. High caliber African artists who are in different stages of their development (from emerging to late career), who are provocative, innovative, and stretching the boundaries of their artistic practice are being sought after.

If you are a composer, writer, video/filmmaker, curator, visual and performance artist or an artist in forms not listed and your work is inspired by or related to the challenges facing humanity, the residency is available to you.

The Africa Center will curate a short list for AIR whom will then select an artist from the short list for one of their 2018 residencies. Each residency offers a distinct structure, set of requirements and duration. The costs of the residency and round-trip airfare are included in each residency award made. This year there are two distinct application processes:

Mid – Late Career Artists – interested in the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center residency in Italy, click here to read the application guidelines. Bellagio Center applications close on December 1st, 2017.

Emerging – Mid Career Artists – interested in residency opportunities at Bundanon Trust in Australia, Instituto Sacatar in Brazil, Jiwar in Spain, Fountainhead Residency in Miami, or International Studio & Curatorial Program in New York, can click here to read the application guidelines. The deadline for applications in this category is December 16th, 2017.
