A Public Space Writing Fellowship/ How to Apply ($1000 + More)

A Public Space Writing Fellowship is thrilled to announce the opening of applications for the year 2024.

These fellowships are designed to discover and support writers who demonstrate a willingness to take risks in their work and possess a unique creative vision. Furthermore, since its establishment in 2014, the Writing Fellowships at A Public Space have provided vital support to emerging writers, propelling them toward successful literary careers.

Eligibility

  • Writers who have not yet secured a contract to publish a book are eligible to apply.
  • Submissions in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry are welcome.
  • Furthermore, only writers who have not published or been contracted to write a book-length work with a U.S. publisher are eligible.
  •  International applicants are encouraged, but submissions must be in English.
  • Only one submission per person is allowed.
  • Previously submitted pieces to A Public Space, regardless of category, are discouraged.
  • Additionally, A Public Space reserves the right to invite submissions.

Submission Guidelines

  • Applications will be accepted via Submittable from March 1, 2024, to March 31, 2024.
  • Also, electronic submissions through the Writing Fellowship category in Submittable are required.
  • More so, there is no application fee to apply
  • Required materials include: – A résumé, A cover letter containing a one-paragraph biographical statement, a favorite paragraph from a book, and a brief statement explaining its significance.
  • One previously unpublished piece (limit of 6,000 words for prose, up to 15 pages for poetry).
  • Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but if accepted elsewhere, the entire application must be withdrawn.
  • Only PDF or Word files (.doc and .docx) are accepted.
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Rewards for A Public Space Writing Fellowship

  • Editorial support from A Public Space editors to prepare a piece for publication in the magazine.
  • In addition, fellows receive a $1,000 honorarium.
  • One year subscription to A Public Space.
  • A guest pass to attend Master Classes.
  • The opportunity to participate in a public reading and conversation with A Public Space editors and contributors.
