The Alpine Fellowship Academic Prize 2023/ How To Apply (Prize: £2500)

The 2023 Alpine Fellowship Academic Prize is currently open for submission from writers of academic writing. 

The Alpine Fellowship is charitable foundation that supports, commissions and showcases artists, writers, academics and playwrights. We’re committed to discovering emerging talent, to disseminating new ideas and to sharing thoughts about art, literature and philosophy.

This year, the award will be given to the best piece of academic essay writing on the theme: Flourishing

Eligibility Guidelines for the Alpine Fellowship Academic Prize 

  • The 2023 Alpine fellowship prize for academic writing is open to post-graduate students currently enrolled on any course related to the field of philosophy at any institution in the UK.
  • All entries must be written in English.
  • Applicants must be aged 18 and above.

  • Applicants must be available and willing to travel to our 2023 symposium which will be held from 10th-13th August 2023 in Fjällnäs, Sweden.

Submission Guidelines for the Alpine Fellowship Academic Prize

  • Applicants will be asked to submit:

    • A 1,000 word statement about how the bursary would benefit them and a summary of their research with special attention to how it relates to our theme.

    • A sample of your academic writing up to 10,000 words. This should not be written specifically for this prize and it does not have to relate to the theme, this is simply our chance to assess your academic style and experience.

    • A CV, including information about their current course and expected graduation date.

    • Two letters of reference from a supervisor/other academics in the field who know their work well – these will be submitted directly to us and information for where these should be sent will be provided after the other materials have been submitted.

  • Academic writing is to be construed properly. They do not seek creative writing, Academic writing is seen as writing that
    a) advances and defends an argument on the question and/or that
    b) makes a systematic and appreciable contribution to knowledge in academic disciplines, concerning the topic of the symposium. Work from different disciplinary (or interdisciplinary) approaches including, but not limited to, philosophy, history, sociology, literary studies, political theory, biology, anthropology, and psychology will be considered.

Deadline

Applications close on the 1st of March 2023 at 23:59 (UK time)

Prizes

Two £2,500 cash prizes will be given to the winner. They will also be invited to attend the 2023 symposium in Sweden.
