The Literary Laddership Fellowship is back for its fourth edition, offering a transformative opportunity for emerging African authors to grow their craft, connect with fellow writers, and advance their creative projects.
Founded in 2022 by award-winning writer Suyi Davies Okungbowa, this virtual fellowship supports writers through mentorship, community, and resources.

Eligibility Requirements of the Literary Laddership Fellowship
- Must be an emerging author of African descent
- Based primarily on the African continent
- Writing must be in English
- Aged 18 and above
- Must propose a manuscript of at least 17,500 words (novella) or 40,000+ (novel)
Application Guidelines

Your application must include the following materials:
- Cover Letter (in the email body)
- Briefly describe how you meet the eligibility criteria
- Writing Sample
- Max 3,000 words total across two different works
- Preferred: excerpts from longer projects (novels or novellas)
- File format: .doc, .docx, or .pdf
- Do NOT include identifying information in the file
- Project Description & Fellowship Plan (2 pages max, single-spaced)
- Why you deserve this fellowship
- What you’ll work on during the fellowship
- How the funds will be used to support the project
Note: All identifying information should appear only in the email body, not within attached documents.
