The Prime Number Magazine Awards celebrate excellence in poetry and short fiction, offering cash prizes and publication to standout writers. This competition is open to writers worldwide, aged 18 and older, who write in English.

Winning pieces and runners-up will be published in Issue 277 of Prime Number Magazine on September 1, 2025.

Awards & Prizes

• First Prize (Poetry & Short Fiction): $1,000 + publication.
• Runners-Up (2 per category): $250 + publication.
• Finalists: Named in the announcement.

Winners, runners-up, and finalists will be announced by July 1, 2025.

How to Enter

• Entry Period: January 1 – March 31, 2025 (midnight ET).
• Entry Fee: $15 per submission.
• Submissions: Must be unpublished.

Submission Guidelines

Poetry

• One unpublished poem (max 3 pages).
• 12-pt font (Times, Garamond, etc.).
• No name on the manuscript.

Short Fiction

• One unpublished short story (max 5,300 words).
• 12-pt font, double-spaced, page-numbered.
• No name on the manuscript.

Additional Rules

• Multiple entries allowed, but each requires a separate fee.
• Simultaneous submissions permitted, but entrants must withdraw accepted work. No replacements allowed.
• Editing allowed before the deadline via Submittable.

The Judges of the 2025 Prime Number Magazine Awards are:

• Poetry: Molly Rice, author of Forever Eighty-Eights: Poems.
• Short Fiction: Dennis McFadden, author of Jimtown Road: A Novel in Stories.

All entries are read blind. Judges will disqualify any work they recognize.

• Past contributors to Prime Number Magazine and Press 53 anthologies are eligible.
• Authors with book-length collections from Press 53 are NOT eligible.
