ÀTẸ́LẸWỌ́ Prize for Yorùbá Literature 2025: Call for Submissions (₦1m)
The ÀTẸ́LẸWỌ́ Cultural Initiative is pleased to announce the 5th edition of the ÀTẸ́LẸWỌ́
Prize for Yorùbá Literature. This special anniversary edition continues the initiative’s mission of revitalizing and promoting the Yorùbá language and literary culture.
The competition is open to unpublished works in the Yorùbá language, offering writers the opportunity to showcase their creativity while contributing to the preservation and growth of Yorùbá literature.
Eligibility

Open to writers who have not previously published a novel, play, or full-length poetry collection in Yorùbá.

Writers must be at least 18 years old.

Submit to one of the following categories:

Poetry
-
Prose
-
Drama
-
Translation (from English to Yorùbá or vice versa, preferably into Yorùbá).

Tone-mark all entries properly with correct diacritics.

Previous winners (anyone shortlisted between 2021 and now) are not eligible.
Submission Guidelines

Writers may submit only one manuscript.

Manuscripts should be between 50 and 100 pages or more (1.0 spacing, font size 12).

Submissions must be in Microsoft Word format.

Applicants should make sure that works translated are in the public domain or have explicit permission from the author or publisher (proof must be attached).

ÀTẸ́LẸWỌ́ reserves the right to disqualify any submission that does not adhere to the rules.
Prize & Benefits

The judges will select one overall winner.

The winner will receive a ₦1,000,000 cash prize.

ÀTẸ́LẸWỌ́ will publish the winning manuscript in hard copy with ÀTẸ́LẸWỌ́. (Terms & Conditions apply.)
