The Tender Photo Editorial Fellowship 2025 is now open for applications! This unique opportunity is designed for early to mid-career writers based in Africa who are interested in arts writing, journalism, and photography. Eligibility

• To be considered for the Tender Photo Editorial Fellowship, applicants must:

• Be based in an African country.

• Write in English.

• Have a strong interest in photography, arts writing, and journalism.

• Have little to no formal training in the visual arts or art criticism.

• Demonstrate a commitment to writing, even without a significant publication history.

Preference will be given to those who align with the ethos and format of the Tender Photo newsletter.

Fellowship Requirements

• Selected fellows will:

• Participate in two masterclasses facilitated by Emmanuel Iduma and Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀, focusing on critical photography analysis and fiction writing inspired by photographs.

• Write four micro-essays about photography, each including narrative captions of approximately 150 words.

• Correspond with photographers and assist in preparing the newsletter for publication.

• Develop a longer piece of fiction or nonfiction, with feedback provided on up to two drafts.
