The COAS Literary Competition 2025. Applications open now.

We are pleased to announce that the Nigerian Army is organising the second edition of The COAS Literary Writing Competition 2025 with the theme “The Nigerian Army: Securing the people and promoting development.” Accordingly, this competition is open to applicants in Primary and Secondary Schools as well as Undergraduates in Nigeria. 

Categories of The COAS Literary Competition 2025

Furthermore, the COAS Literary Competition is divided into three categories. Applicants can apply under any one of the following:

  • Chief of Army Staff Essay Competition 
  • The COAS Art Competition 
  • COAS Poetry Competition

Eligibility for The Chief of Army  Literary Competition 2025

  • Firstly, primary School (5-11 years)
  • Secondly, secondary School (12-17 years)
  • Following, undergraduate and all ages (18 and above)
  • Generally, all applicants must be Nigerian.

Application Guidelines for The Chief of Army Staff Literary Competition 2025

  • Notably, every application form for primary school pupils, secondary school students, and undergraduates must be completed online, printed, duly endorsed, stamped by the head of schools, scanned and uploaded.
  • Similarly, there are two levels of assessment. An initial assessment to shortlisted candidates while the second would be a virtual interaction with a team of assessors before the final selection of winners
  • Also, any application discovered to be false shall be disqualified immediately.
  • Significantly, entries may be published in NA Journals/Periodicals.

Specific Entries Requirements for The Chief of Army Staff Literary Competition 2025

Some specific entries requirements which applicants MUST strictly adhere to for each competition are as follows:

Guidelines for The Chief of Army Staff Essay Competition 2025

  • Basically, all topics must be coined from the theme (Nigerian Army: Securing the people and promoting development). 
  • Correspondingly, the length of the essay for primary and secondary schools should not exceed 2000 words nor should those for tertiary institutions exceed 5000 words.
  • Lastly, another key point is that essays should be the original thoughts of the writer. No copied or AI generated material is allowed because they will be disqualified immediately.

Guidelines for The Chief of Army Staff Art Competition 2025

  • Every art work must have bearing with the theme (Nigerian Army: Securing the people and promoting development). 
  • Nevertheless, art works are limited to only painting and drawing.
  • All things considered, pieces of art should be submitted with a short caption.
  • Any submitted work must be the original of the artist and should not have been published anywhere prior to the competition because they would be disqualified.
  • Considerably, entries are to be snapped/scanned and uploaded, both primary and secondary school students and undergraduates, no later than 31st March, 2025. 

Guidelines for The Chief of Army Staff Poetry Competition 2025

  • Submitted poems should be original because plagiarism would attract disqualification.
  • Poems can be versatile i.e it can belong to any genre but must be related to the theme of the competition. 
  • The entries should contain a maximum of 200 words lest they face disqualification.
  • Particularly, all entries must be in English Language.

What Will Winners of this Contest Receive?

Chiefly, the winners of The COAS Literary Competitions 2025, all categories each will be issued appropriate certificates as well as the same cash prizes and they are as follows:

From Age 5-11 Years (Primary School)

  • 1st Position – N250,000
  • 2nd Position – N100,000
  • 3rd Position – N50,000

Then, age 12-17 (Secondary School)

  • 1st Place – N600,000
  • 2nd Place – N250,000
  • 3rd Place – N100,000

All Ages (Undergraduates)

  • 1st – N1,000,000
  • 2nd – N500,000
  • 3rd – N200,000

 

Note

In conclusion, the closing date for submission of entries is Monday, 31st March 2025. Cash prizes and certificates will be presented to all the winners at a specially organised event. All winners will be duly informed of the date and venue for the presentations of certificates and prizes.
