The Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience at Washington College invites applications for the Patrick Henry History Fellowship. This full-time residential fellowship supports outstanding work on American history and culture by both scholars and non-academic authors.

 

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the Patrick Henry History Fellowship, applicants must:

 

– Have a significant project currently in progress, such as a book, film, oral history archive, podcast series, or museum exhibition

– Address the history and/or legacy of the U.S. founding era and/or the nation’s founding ideas in their project

– Be a published writer or established scholar, although applications from non-academic authors are also welcome

– Have completed the majority of their research and be focused on the writing phase of their project

 

Requirements for the Patrick Henry History Fellowship 

 

To apply, applicants must submit:

 

– A coherent and comprehensive cover letter

– A curriculum vitae, including a list of past publications and the names and telephone numbers of at least three references

– At least one substantial sample of the candidate’s writing (published or unpublished)

– A short description of a course that the candidate might teach

– A brief narrative description of the work-in-progress, its potential contributions to ongoing national conversations or debates, and the candidate’s plan for their fellowship year
