The 2024 Miles Morland Writing Scholarship Shortlist
The Miles Morland Foundation has announced the Miles Morland Writing Scholarship Shortlist for 2024.
Every year, the Miles Morland Foundation calls for submissions for the Miles Morland Writing Scholarship to award writers with a grant of £18,000, paid monthly over twelve months. The aim is to allow each scholar the time to produce the first draft of a completed book. The scholarships are always open to anyone writing in English born in Africa or whose parents were born in Africa. Previous award recipients include Rafeeat Aliyu, Mubanga Kalimamukwento, Kiprop Kimutai, and Remy Ngamije.
According to the Foundation, 500 entries were received from published writers across Africa. The shortlist of 20 was selected using the combined scores of experienced readers, many of whom are agents, editors, and writers. Among the shortlisted countries, South African writers top the list with eight, followed by Kenya and Nigeria with four each.
