A Long House is delighted to announce its call for applications for the 2025 Rajat Neogy Editorial Fellowship. This call continues A Long House’s commitment to fostering editorial talent in Africa, marking the third iteration since the fellowship’s inception in 2021. A Long House aims to further develop and expand the fellowship in the years to come, inspiring and nurturing a robust community of editors in Africa and its diaspora.

A Long House encourages Africans who share a passion for literature and the art and discipline of editing to apply for the 2025 Rajat Neogy Editorial Fellowship. This fellowship draws inspiration from one of the continent’s most illustrious editing traditions, established by Rajat Neogy, founder and editor of Transition, a renowned literary magazine that emerged from Africa. Founded in Uganda in 1961 when Neogy was just 22, Transition, under his editorial leadership, published works by some of Africa’s most distinguished writers, including Chinua Achebe, Es’kia Mphalele, Wole Soyinka, Bessie Head, and Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o, often introducing their work to the world for the first time.

 

Eligibility For The 2025 Rajat Neogy Editorial Fellowship 

All who are applying:

  • Should be between 18 – 40 years old.
  • Should be an African residing in Africa.
  • Also, applicants must demonstrate a deep interest in African literature and the ecosystems that nurture it.

Requirements 

To apply, please upload a motivation letter of not more than 500 words along with your CV as a single pdf on Submittable.

Benefits 

There will be a $1000 award for the fellowship, a tote bag of books, and a period of mentorship with a select writer or editor of repute.
