The Onion was founded in 1988 in Madison, Wisconsin, by college students Tim Keck and Christopher Johnson as a satirical newspaper targeting university students. It quickly gained traction for its sharp, absurd takes on current events. By the late 1990s, the publication expanded its reach online, becoming one of the first major satirical websites and drawing a national audience with its biting humour.

Over time, it evolved from a print-centric operation to a primarily digital platform, embracing video content, social media, and even producing original shows. However, The Onion continued to produce print editions in select cities until 2013, when the last of its newspapers were discontinued.

Now, over a decade later, The Onion is excited to announce the return of its iconic print edition. In addition to the print edition, The Onion will also feature live events, an archive of old print editions, and other projects.
