Death of the Author is the New Title of Nnedi Okorafor’s 26th Novel
On May 30, 2024, the Nigerian-American Africanfuturist writer Nnedi Okorafor announced the new title of her forthcoming book.
Nnedi Okorafor has announced that the title of her 26th novel has been changed to Death of the Author. The book was initially called The Africanfuturist when Nnedi Okorafor signed the seven-figure deal with the publishers before the author shared news about the title being reworked with her agents.
The book is said to be a personal story for Nnnedi, taking thirty years to write. It is about a disabled Nigerian American woman who writes a science fiction novel. She is able to get success but it is at a personal cost.
According to Publishers Weekly, it explores ‘the labyrinth of African diasporic identity, family, and what makes us human.’ Nnnedi Okorafor, in July of 2023, wrote in a post;
‘ I wrote this from the gut, through the pain and BECAUSE OF the loss of my sister, Ngozi C. Okorafor (which is why it is dedicated to her).’
Nnedi Okorafor is an award-winning, best-selling author of captivating stories that blend African culture, myth, and history with technology. Her books have won awards such as the Hugo, Nebula, World Fantasy, Locus, and Lodestar Awards. Her debut novel, Zahrah The Windseeker, won the Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature. Not only does she write prose, but she also has an Africanfuturist comic titled Laguardia, which has also received awards.
Nnedi holds a PhD (literature) and two MAs (journalism and literature). She lives with her daughter Anyaugo and family in Phoenix, Arizona.
Death of the Author will be published in January 2025 by William Morrow, an imprint of Harper Collins Publishers.
