Wyldblood Press Submissions is Currently Open (Payment: $0.01 per word- $120 per novella)
Are you a writer of Fantasy, Science Fiction or Speculative Fiction? Wyldblood Press Submissions is currently open for a limited time.
Wyldblodd Press is a Speculative Fiction Magazine established in 2020 with the aim of publishing the best new talent, established authors and some well-loved classics. Wyldblood Magazine showcases a clutch of new science fiction and fantasy stories, the best of which will find their way into their ‘Best of’ anthologies. Their publications appear in print and electronically, including their magazine, which is equally available in all electronic formats, including kindle and pdf. Wyldblood Press would like to put out six novels over the next year and some shorter fiction, but the quality will need to be high for them to publish. They want speculative fiction in all its forms. If you have a story you believe in, then Wyldblood Press Submissions is an open call to you.
Wyldblood Press Submissions Preferences
If you’re going to be submitting work to them, you are to bear in mind:
- If you’re not British, American English is fine (though they usually edit out the US-specific word ‘gotten’), however if you’re from the UK only British English will do.
- Ensure to avoid jarringly American or jarringly British language – they have an international readership and we like to aim for common ground. They are amused by the idea of fanny packs but they don’t want to see them in your stories.
- Format like a pro: they suggest using the standard manuscript format, particularly for shorter works.
- Indent your paragraphs (using the indent function – not tab stops, which mess up their reformatting, or random spaces, which mess up everything). Assume they will change the font and text size, so make your formatting robust enough to cope with that, so no fancy whizziness.
- Don’t send them things they haven’t asked for, especially poetry.
- Elves, goblins, dwarfs, pixies, fairies and all the other usual fantasy tropes are currently a hard sell for us. But they are fine with vampires and zombies (for now).
- They have seen many things many times, so ensure your writing is eloquent and original.
- They can tell if you know your craft – don’t send them your first draft and ensure you’ve covered the basics. It doesn’t have to be perfect – but it does have to be professional.
- Furthermore, look at their published stories to get a feel for what we buy.
- No gratuitous gore or erotica and be sparing with swearing – don’t send them anything you wouldn’t want kids to see.
- No overtly Christian or pro-religion pieces.
- Thoughtful, character-based stories are their thing.
- Don’t send anything racist or deliberately offensive. And don’t be preachy.
- No fan-fic – they particularly have no desire to get sued.
- Finally, enthusiasm, perseverance and an obvious willingness to take feedback and respond positively go a long way with them.
