Fairest Creative Writer Workshop Series Fall 2022 — How To Sign Up For Free
The process of producing great writing can be long and arduous. Often the writer needs a great creative writing workshop space and a community of supportive writers.
And that’s what the organizers of the Fall 2022 Fairest Writers’ Workshop Series are providing. A Zoom writing workshop on Process. And guess what? It’s free of charge.
The organizers want the best for writers who want to learn to write more eloquently. In other words, writers who are seeking growth and development in their writing career. To make this dream attainable, the Fairest Writers’ Workshop offers the opportunity for growth in its 4-week workshop program this fall 2022.
The workshop will hold on four Wednesdays, 7 – 8 pm ET / 4 – 5 pm PT

For writers at every stage of development, this workshop will explore what it means to begin, whether in your journey toward writing as a profession, writing in a new mode or genre, or simply how to get started when you’re feeling stuck. Workshop participants will discuss and work with Alexander Chee’s “The Writing Life,” an essay from his collection How to Write an Autobiographical Novel, and will be joined by Alex himself!

Guest: Porochista Khakpour

Whether Octavia Butler’s self-hypnosis, Lidia Yuknavitch’s swimming, or Haruki Murakamai’s running, this workshop will explore practices and routines that can help writers once they sit down to write in their creative corners. We’ll be discussing Lidia Yuknavitch’s amazing essay “I Will Always Inhabit the Water” and the facilitator will be joined by author, Porochista Khakpour.
Sept. 28 – “Rediscovering Your Story”
Guest: Garrard Conley
Reading: Melissa Febos, “Mind Fuck: Writing Better Sex”
For this workshop, we’ll use Melissa Febos’s essay “Mind Fuck” as a starting point for thinking about personal writing not as telling a single story but uncovering many layers of stories through continued investigation, as well as exploring how one’s perspective on events changes over time. I’ll be joined in discussion by the wonderful Garrard Conley, author of the New York Times Bestselling memoir, Boy Erased.
Oct. 5 – “Drafting, Revising, Composting”
Guest: Thomas Grattan
Reading: Anne Lamott, “Shitty First Drafts” and Natalie Goldberg, “Composting”
When is it time to keep going when a draft isn’t going well and when is it time to revise? Or when is it time to start something new? Through Anne Lamott’s “Shitty First Drafts” and Natalie Goldberg’s “Composting,” I’ll be discussing different philosophies around drafting, revision, and rewriting and will be joined by one of my favorite writers Thomas Grattan, author of The Recent East.
