Our Prompt for June: Dr. Seuss asks, “How did it get so late so soon? . . . December is here before it’s June.” Indeed, how is it time to say farewell to spring? Do the seasons get shorter as the days grow longer? This month those will shorten too; it seems we will open our eyes to winter soon.

Eligibility

  • The contest is free, no entry fee is required.
  • Also, there is no age restriction
  • An important addition is that the prompt must be followed strictly.
  • Submit before 15th of June

Submission Guidelines 

  •  Each month, when the organizers offer a new prompt, they introduce it with a short 53-word description that suggests several ways you might look at your story.
  • Even the photo can offer a different way to look at it. M
  • What do they seek? A story that surprises a reader in its approach to the prompt, something unusual and creative.
  • Your story must be 53 words—no more, no less—titles are not included in the word count.
  • Stories with fewer than or more than 53 words will be disqualified.
  • Therefore, send only stories; poetry with line breaks will not be considered.
  • More so, be very careful of word count. Hyphenated words count as one word. 
  • Further more, titles are not included in the word count. If your story is not titled, they will create a title for publication.
  • More so, only one submission is required per person.

 

Further Guidelines 

  • Paste your story into the body of your email. Stories sent as attachments, or images in the email, will not be considered.
  • By entering this contest the author grants Press 53 First Serial Rights to publish the story in Prime Number Magazine
  • Further more, they give permission to archive it permanently on the website.
  • Therefore, all other rights remain with the author.
  • –Email your story directly to 53wordstory@gmail.com by the 15th  day of the month, midnight Eastern Time.
