34 Orchard Journal Is Accepting Submissions/ How To Submit (Pay: $50)
34 Orchard Journal is a literary haven that embraces the darker, intense realms of storytelling, seeking narratives that resonate with profound truths.
Their appetite spans across the scary, disturbing, unsettling, and melancholic without confining to specific genres. At 34 Orchard, their primary mission is simply to publish the stories people love to read.
While they cherish your submissions, they encourage a straightforward approach – don’t overthink it, just submit.
Submission Guidelines For 34 Orchard Journal
- They proudly welcome submissions from writers across the globe. Their Autumn 2023 issue featured works from diverse corners of the world, including Australia, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Greece, India, Italy, Nigeria, Poland, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
- They crave stories that captivate, making it impossible to put them down. Whether it’s the eerie, the chilling, or the heart-wrenching, they’re on the lookout for tales that evoke a genuine “wow” factor.
- For short fiction, they accept pieces ranging from 1000 to 5000 words.
- Poetry, in any style or length, is also a vital part of their publication.
- Please follow Shunn formatting guidelines, ensuring your name is on the document. Neglecting this may lead to an unread rejection.
- Include a cover letter with your name, contact info, story/poem title, word count, and a brief third-person bio of 100 words or fewer.
- Paste the cover letter into the email body. Subject lines should follow the format: Submission: “Story Title,” Last Name or Submission: “Poem Title,” Last Name.
- They understand the anticipation of awaiting responses. Rest assured, they aim to provide feedback no later than February 28 for the spring issue and September 15 for the autumn issue. Unfortunately, they do not offer feedback on rejected pieces.
- Regrettably, they don’t consider reprints or work that has been previously published through their open submissions call.
- Multiple submissions during the same window from one writer will not receive a response.
- Send your submission to 34orchardjournal@gmail.com in .doc or .docx format. If it’s a simultaneous submission, inform them in your email.
Author Rights
Upon acceptance, they purchase Exclusive First World Electronic and Archival Rights. This grants them the privilege to publish your piece online first and maintain it in their archives for six months. After this period, the rights revert to you. They don’t remove pieces from an issue under any circumstances.
Payment
Upon contract signing, they offer a payment of $50. Payments are facilitated through PayPal; if needed, paper checks can be arranged.
Overseas contributors must have a PayPal account, and no exceptions are made for alternative cash transfer services.
