2018 Dstv Eutelsat Star (Essay Contest and Poster Design) Awards—Apply
The organizers of the Dstv Eutelsat Star Awards have started accepting submissions for the 2018 edition of the essay and poster design contest. If you are between the ages of 14 and 18, you might want to enter for this award. Remember, if you can dream it, you can win it.
Your essay or poster design should explore the theme of satellites and how they can be used.
Here’s a quote from the advert:
Satellites are being used in a variety of ways but there is always room for expansion and growth. Write an essay or design a poster on areas you believe the full potential of satellites has not yet been explored or embraced.
Entries can be submitted in English, French or Portuguese.
Who is eligible to apply?
- Only students between 14 and 19 years of age in secondary, high or combined schools
- Must be schooling in an African country where MultiChoice operates.

Criteria for Essays:
- Word count: 1200 – 1400 words
- Must be typed in Arial 12, 1.5 spacing and pages to be numbered or it must be handwritten, but legible
- Only hardcopies will be accepted
- Don’t forget to number your pages
Criteria for Poster:
Design a creative poster by illustrating an idea on the competition topic. The poster must be accompanied by a creative explanation/summary in the following format:
- Title
- Summary of Idea/concept
- Explanation of idea
- References (all sources consulted during the preparation of the entry)
- Language: English, French or Portuguese
- Entries must be between A3 Size (420 X 297 mm) and A1 Size (594 X 841 cm)
- Only hardcopy entries will be accepted. No electronic submissions will be accepted.
Other Submission Guidelines:
- Deadline: 12 October 2018
- Click here to download entry forms or collect the forms from any MultiChoice office nearest to you.
- Deposit hardcopies of essays in the entry box at any MultiChoice in your country. You can also submit your entries in the South African multichoice office. Here’s the address:MultiChoice Africa Building, 251 Oak Avenue in Randburg, Johannesburg (South Africa only).
- Alternatively, you can post your entry to MultiChoice offices listed on the entry form. However, South Africans can post their entries to: MultiChoice Africa, 251 Oak Avenue in Randburg, Johannesburg. Attention: Lebogang Ramothata
- Ensure that your entries are accompanied by an entry form. If, on the other hand, you are sending your essay via post, don’t forget to include the entry form and a creative summary.
- Overall winners will be announced by the end of February.
Bonus Tip:
Avoid plagiarizing other people’s works.
Be creative and original. The judges prefer creative non-fiction styles to academic writing styles, so you might want to bear that in mind.
