Will you love to win £2,500, a trip to London, and also have your play broadcast all over the world? If you have answered in the affirmative, then you should consider applying for the BBC Radio Playwriting Competition 2011.
The BBC World Service and the British Council runs the International Radio Playwriting Competition. The 12th edition of this competition was launched on 16 October 2010. International Radio Playwriting Competition creates several opportunities for budding and professional writers of non-UK residency.
The competition is in two categories: the first, for writers with English as their first language; and the second, for writers with English as their second language. Thus, there are two first prizes for the two categories.
Writers above the age of 16 are eligible to apply for this competition. The drama must be a 60 minute radio play with not more than six characters. The writers can explore any theme of their choice. Interested playwrights should ensure that the play has not been previously published or produced in any medium. Entrant’s original play should be submitted alongside the entry form, questionnaire and synopsis to [email protected]. Entries can also be delivered at any of the local British Council offices. The two winning entrants will be invited to London where they will witness their plays made into full radio productions. These plays will be broadcast on the BBC World Service. And the first winners will be awarded the sum of £2,500. There are also prices for runners-up.
Last year, over 1100 entries were received for this competition. The two first winners of the International Radio Playwriting competition 2010 are Erin Browne of the United States, and Efo Kodjo Mawugbe from Ghana.
