The International Writing Program (the IWP) at the University of Iowa in collaboration with the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) of the US Department of State presents, the course “Moving the Margins: Fiction and Inclusion.” This course will be given as a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) in mid-July.
Participants will read and listen to writers (many of whom are former IWP Fall Residents) speak about and write about voice, character, setting, style, language, and about “moving the margins” of the known and the expected. As writers, you will work with balancing vivid imagination with craft, towards an inclusiveness that allows for different kinds of thinking and different kinds of writing.
The course content includes writers who are both native and non-native English speakers. If you are still working on your own English language skills, you are also welcome. Reading and listening to writers from a variety of backgrounds will help you locate your own voice. This experience through the writing of stories is a strong language practice technique.
We will keep you posted on when registration for the course will open in late June. You do not need any writing experience to participate.
These online courses are open to all writers at all levels. Registration is free and once the course is released in mid-July, you’ll be able to go at your own schedule.
